Light up the Night!

We were fortunate enough to be at the mountains for "Light up the night" at Scenic World where Katoomba Falls is lit up.

So much fun for the kids with a disco skyway, a silent nightclub and kids carnival rides including teacups.  We went for a walk to the base of the waterfall along well lit boardwalks.

There is still time to visit "Light Up the Night" as it goes until the 30th April.

The following day we woke early to head to Scenic World again as we were eager to see what we could see in the daylight.

The excitement in the kids was amazing - they stepped onto the front carriage of the world's steepest railway and they wanted the incline to be on the "cliffhanger" setting - so of course my heart leapt a beat but we reclined the seat and enjoyed the ride up and down.

The walk at the bottom of the railway was amazing as we walked through tropical rainforrests and saw the old coal mine and the original scenic railway.

We also enjoyed the skyline in the daytime - where we overlooked the Jamison Valley and enjoyed views of the three sisters and the waterfall that we had seen during the night. It looked so different during the day,

The kids were fascinated by the glass bottom when they could look straight down on the valley. They did this twice as they enjoyed this so much. They could have kept riding all day.

The children were ages 5, 8, 10 and 17 and they all enjoyed the experience in different ways which was perfect for a spread of ages.

Exhausted after a big day of walking and riding we enjoyed a big bowl of hot chips from the caffeteria before our drive back to Sydney.

Visit https://scenicworld.com.au for more information and how to book your tickets.

ABC Reading Eggs can travel!

We moved to New Zealand for a few years and I needed something to help my kids with their reading. Two of my kids were struggling and really starting to resent reading time, so I knew had to change something. I did not know how to help my three girls with their reading as much as I would have liked to, as I am not a teacher.

We are now back in Australia. My six-year-old has completed the Fast Phonics program and it has really helped her progress with figuring words out. All three girls have come back into the Australian schools as competent readers for their age - thank you ABC Reading Eggs!

Being able to have access for up to 4 kids on one subscription is great, as I was able to have all three of my girls set up. I loved the portability of ABC Reading Eggs as we could use this on long car trips, on different devices, in Covid-19 lockdowns, on holidays and even in different countries! My sister is a school teacher and she supported my use of this program as a fantastic way to teach kids to read. Now we are back in Australia the older girls' school classes are using the ABC Reading Eggspress program for their comprehension tasks. My Kindergarten girl uses ABC Reading Eggs and Mathseeds in class and for homework which made the transition much easier. There is a great selection of books and readers to read as well - which is especially useful for my kinder girl.

I would encourage you to take advantage of the exclusive 35% discount offer for existing customers on your 12‑month subscription by clicking  here

The Unauthorized Harry Experience

A Parody by Dan and Jeff

All Seven Harry Potter Books in Seventy Hilarious Minutes

"The duo casts the perfect spell over the audience." The New York Times – Critics’ Pick

"Gloriously irreverent." Time Out London – Critics’ Choice

"I guarantee you’ll go positively potty over Potted Potter." Toronto Star

"A fabulously funny parody." The Daily Telegraph (UK)

2021 marks the 15th Anniversary of the international smash hit Harry Potter parody POTTED POTTER.  In celebrating this milestone, producers have confirmed that Australia will score a global exclusive with a five-city tour of this blissfully funny romp through J.K. Rowling’s back catalogue live on stage.  The 2021 Anniversary tour will open in Sydney on 22 June, then travel to Canberra on 13 July, Adelaide 27 July, Brisbane 3 August and Perth on 11 August.

POTTED POTTER has been performed hilariously “across the ditch” by two New Zealand actors Adam Brown and Tama Jarman who will bring the brilliant Centrepoint Theatre production to Oz following an acclaimed premiere there last year. This was directed by the show’s co-creator Daniel Clarkson and was praised by the NZ Herald for its “terrific, fun, slick performances”.

POTTED POTTER – The Unauthorized Harry Experience – A Parody by Dan and Jeff takes on the ultimate challenge of condensing all seven Harry Potter books (and a real-life game of Quidditch) into seventy hilarious minutes. Even if you don’t know the difference between a horcrux and a Hufflepuff, this fantastically funny show that features all your favourite characters, a special appearance from a fire-breathing dragon, endless costumes, brilliant songs, ridiculous props and a generous helping of Hogwarts magic will make you roar with laughter.

“Blissfully funny, a winner in every way. This show is a crowd-pleaser.” The London Guardian

“Cleverly appeals to both ardent fans and parents.” The London Times

Sand free beach towels

Wet. Heavy. Sandy. Those three words define the regular beach towel.  Tesalate are the experts in textile innovation. The Absorblite™ fabric tech is engineered to revolutionize the beach towel as you know it.

I was fotunate enough to review a Tesalate towel and I loved it so much that I also bought another one. They are not that cheap but definately worth it. Sand free towels are a must for the beach.

My only problem was choosing the design as I loved them all.

Sand free - just shake off the sand - it is so easy.

One of the towels I chose was the Bora Bora - a towel for 2 - the size of a picnic rug. The size is perfect.

The other design I chose was  The Alchemist.

I love the size it folds down to as well - I can't believe how small a picnic sized towel folds to.

It's that time of the year again where we get to buy our kids all of the school supplies that we wished we had when we were at school. Personalised Bento Boxes, Pencil Cases & Stationery with their names on them & cute custom Backpacks... The possibilities are endless!

What we really want...

But what are Mums & Dads really looking for when they buy school supplies? For me, it's durability & practicality. I want my kids' school stuff to last the whole year. I want zips that don't break, straps that stay stitched & lunch boxes I can throw into the dishwasher every day. I want labels that stay stuck and I want to be able to label every single item that is leaving my house & entering the world of school... I got tired of having to replace school jackets & hats. Now they're labelled and they always come home.

Where we get it...

Bright Star Kids ticks all of these boxes. Their range of school suppliesavailable is super durable, the backpacks & lunch bags are machine washable & as far as name labels go... you won't find them this durable anywhere else.

Use this handy Back to School Checklist to make sure you don’t forget a thing.

Top 10 Things You Need To Label For School

Top 10 Things You Need To Label For School

School… Oh to be back there knowing what I know now! Packed lunches, hanging out with friends all day, playing in the sun & just having the time of my life. Unfortunately, though, my days of Mum packing my lunch are long gone and now it’s my turn to be head chef, taxi driver, counsellor, cleaner & cheer squad for my own boys. It can be tough but I’m loving every minute of it.

The thing is though, I always thought that once I became a mum I’d just magically evolve into this organised better version of myself. That I’d never forget a Mufti Day, I’d always bake for the cupcake stall, and I’d certainly never be late picking the kids up from school. But that was not to be.

It took me some time to work out how to best navigate the Back To School rush each year, but after replacing 5 school jackets, 10 hats, 657 pencils & more lunch containers than I can count, I’ve learned my lesson about labelling… If it leaves the house with either of my children it gets labelled… every. single. thing!

Last year was the first year that I didn’t have to replace anything. I must have saved close to $500 just by making sure everything was labelled before it went to school with the boys. On top of that, the kids didn’t have to face me to tell me they’d lost another $70 jacket which I’m sure was a huge load of their minds too. Here are the labels I used, they’re the best!

So what exactly do I label? EVERYTHING! But… there are 10 things that I think every parent should always ensure they label.

1. Uniforms

Iron on labels have been an absolute lifesaver for me. I’ve labelled the boys’ jackets, shirts, shorts & pants & they’ve not lost a thing since. The labels from Bright Star Kids are super easy to apply & they stay stuck. I wouldn’t do a school year without them again, they’ve saved me a fortune.

2. Shoes

I’m certain most people will think I’m crazy, but as I said… I label everything & Shoes are no exception to the rule. The shoe label goes on the inside of the shoe so that it’s easy for the kids to see which shoes are theirs. I imagine having their shoes labelled is a huge help for their teachers too when it comes time to remove their shoes in class. I can’t imagine trying to help 30 kids all find their correct shoes & put them back on.

3. Socks

Even socks can’t escape my wrath. Bright Star Kids’ Iron on sock dots are amazing. They’re the perfect size for socks big & small & they guarantee that my sons don’t pick up other kids’ socks at the playground.

4. Hats

I’m never replacing a lost hat ever again thanks to these labels. Hats are not cheap and labelling them has meant that even if they end up in the lost property box we’re able to identify that it belongs to the boys. The other thing about labelling hats is that it stops kids from accidentally picking up their friend’s hat and possibly coming in contact with head lice. Seriously… label your hats, you’ll thank me later!

5. Stationery

With a class of 30 kids, it is expected that on occasion there might be some stationery mix ups. My kids get this awesome personalised pencil case and I fill it with everything they’ll need for the whole year. Before I hand it over to them though, I label every pencil, every marker, the sharpener, the ruler, they eraser… you get it! Even if they lend their stationery to a friend in class it always comes back now & again, I’m saving money

6. Drink Bottles

With lots of mums buying their kids’ school supplies from the same places, it’s not difficult to imagine that there might be a few hundred of the exact same drink bottle floating around your kids’ school. If you label it, you’ll know it’s theirs… if you don’t, and they lose it you’ll likely be stuck buying another one, and again next term & every term after that. Before you know it, that bargain $10 drink bottle has become a $100 drink bottle. I’ve done this myself so last year I bought the boys a personalised drink bottle. They’re brilliant & they’ll be able to use the same bottles again this year, definitely worth the $30 I spent.

7. Containers

Never again will I let the kids leave the house with my prized tupperware without labelling it. Bright Star Kids’ labels are 100% waterproof & scratch proof. They can go in the dishwasher & microwave, and they save you a fortune in replacing lost containers. They’re super easy to apply & they stay stuck. If you’re tired of replacing containers, you’ve got to get yourself some of these.

8. Books

This one seems to speak for itself. Obviously you’re going to label your kids’ exercise books! While that’s an important task, I’m talking about labelling Story Books. My son’s have the opportunity to bring a book to school every few weeks for storytime & being a big book lover, I want to be sure they come back. I get these labels for their books so that there’s no mistaking who each book belongs to.

9. Bag

If you’re not buying a personalised backpack for your kids you’re going to want to make sure you label it. For me, I love a good quality bag tag. I like that the boys can spot their bag quickly in the afternoons so that we can escape the school pick up rush. Much like the drink bottle situation, it’s highly likely that there will be kids at school with the same backpack, so to avoid any confusion, add a bag tag to the top handle. It’s that easy!

10. Devices

If your kiddo is expected to bring a device to school you’d have to be a little bit crazy to not label it! One of my sons is allowed to bring an iPad to school & I labelled the iPad bag with my iron on labels, the cable is labelled & so too are his earphones. For his iPad I used these extra large labels & the label has lasted a whole year so far.

That’s it!

But don’t forget… you’re going to need a whole lot more than just 10 labels! If you want to label everything with labels that actually stay stuck, you have to invest in Bright Star Kids’ labels, they’re absolutely phenomenal. Don’t forget to let us know how you go labelling this year & how much money you’ve saved now that you don’t have to keep replacing lost stuff.

Whitehaven Beach Cruise

"Pristine, pure, perfect – the silica sand here is dazzlingly white, washed in on the tide over thousands of years. Located on the largest island in The Whitsundays, Whitehaven Beach offers up 7km of shore to explore – swim, snorkel, laze on the sand or even take a hike through the forest to an ocean lookout or secret swimming spot: your time here can be as energetic or relaxed as you’d like it to be. Don’t miss the walk to the spectacular viewpoint over Hill Inlet at Whitehaven’s northern end, where a swirl of white sand and turquoise water fuse to create a stunning blend of colours." From Cruise Whitesunday's Website.

We loved our cruise with Whitsunday Cruises. The scenic cruise out let us see Hamilton Island from different directions, we loved the scenic trip to Whitehaven Beach.

We enjoyed morning tea of muffins and fruit and tea and coffee onboard the boat. We then went ashore on a transport barge which took us to shore. We took part in fish feeding, wrote our names on the beach and put on our stinger suits where we discovered a fringing reef which was spectacular.

A lovely morning at Whitehaven Beach and lots of happy memories.

Turtle Discovery Catseye Beach

We recently went to Hamilton Island and we were fortunate to see and see a whole variety of marine life - including turtles, on a Turtle Discovery tour.

My two eldest sons and myself put on our snorkles and went out with guides standing on paddle boards. The guides on paddleboards were spotting for turles and when they found them they signalled to us and we all hurried over.

The excitement we all felt when we spotted our first turle was amazing as we hurried across to the next turtle that had been cited.

We saw 6 large turtles which made for a fantastic tour.

We saw some coral formations and tropical fish and colourful coral structures which I was not expecting to see off Hamilton Island's Catseye Beach. I enjoyed this so much we didn't go out to the outer reef as we just enjoyed the snokelling at Catseye Beach.

Why bags are best!

I have been lucky enough to have experience the SEBO vacuum clearner. My parents had one of the first SEBO vacuum cleaners and they last and last and last. My dad always said that the upright vacuums are the best vacuums ever made and of course he is right.

I now have my very own SEBO FELIX which I totally love. My house has never been cleaner with my new vacuum as I test out all the functions and my kids do as well. I love the fact that it is lightweight and versatile and easy to move around the house.

I think the thing that most appealed to me about the vaccuum was that it had a bag system that works well.  The SEBO filter bag system not only enhances filtration, but it also allows you to hygienically dispose of all the dust and dirt.

Think of your kitchen bin: undoubtedly you use a bin liner. This is for the very good reason that without the convenience of a bin bag, emptying it would be very messy. You would have to frequently clean it - which would be an unpleasant and time consuming task.

Dust becomes airborne very easily and will almost certainly contain hazardous material such as dust mite faeces and bacteria. With a SEBO sealable high filtration bag, dust isn’t a problem: It is safely retained within the filter bag and can cleanly and easily be disposed of in the bin, inside or outside. The filter bag housing of a SEBO remains free of dust and does not require cleaning. For allergy sufferers the filter bag protects you from the risk of exposure to dust.

Contrast this with a bagless vacuum cleaner: The dust container and its internals can rapidly build up with dust and require cleaning. The filters can require monthly cleaning. Because of the high probability of dust becoming airborne many people empty them outside, or empty them into a bag first. With SEBO you have a purpose designed bag which the vacuum cleaner fills for you.

And there's more - the bags are so easy to buy as they can be bought online and they arrive in the post, no more going to the shops in search of the correct vaccuum bag only to be told they don't stock these - SEBO stock your bags and they are easy to buy.

The FELIX is amazing the way it can go under my beds and furniture!

And the dog hair - not a trace of hair - the vacuum comes out 5 minutes before my husband comes home and he doesn't know the dog has been in the house!!! Quick kids!

The FELIX is designed to be suitable for all floor types; the power brush can be turned on or off and the SEBO Parquet Brush can be fitted for optimum cleaning performance on any floor. The swivel neck lets you steer around obstacles with ease. The handle height can be adjusted for comfort and is ideal for storage, whilst variable power lets you choose the optimum suction level.

I love the way the power head can be removed at the push of a button to clean my car and the brush roller can be turned off for delicate floors.

The red light comes on below when you need to change the setting to go between carpet and tiled floors - a perfect reminder for me as it is so easy to know what to do when the light comes on.

My kids can't get enough of vacuuming these days and my floor is always clean and I can relax while my kids have all the fun vacuuming.  Hope you can experience a Sebo vaccumm and realise how great they are.

Visit http://www.sebo.com.au

Use code "SEBOVIP" to receive free delivery Australia wide on their vacuum cleaner and a free packet of bags (which can generally last a year depending on usage). We guarantee next business day shipping on all online orders.

8 Tips For A Better Night Sleep

Let's face it as mums it can be quite rare to get a good night sleep, I mean a really good night sleep where you hit the pillow, doze off into dreamland and don't wake up until your alarm goes off.

Depending on how old your children are you may have different sleep patterns, if you have a baby you are most likely still waking a few times a night, if you have school aged kids you are probably getting a bit more sleep, unless you are staying up and doing their homework for them, which is a whole other blog. No matter what stage you are at there are still ways to improve and ensure that you get a restful night sleep.

At the beginning of the year I was burnt out, yep this was before school even started. I really assessed a lot of areas in my life and sleep was one that I knew needed improving, I was constantly tired irritable and low on energy. I did some research and started to change a few things when it came to sleeping and this is what I found helped.

Remove any technology, electronics or TV from the room. I know this is hard I love nothing better than curling up in bed when the kids are asleep and binge watching the housewives of Beverly Hills. But this actually got me into a routine of not going to sleep before midnight, even though I had climbed into bed at 8pm. Since we have removed TV from the bedroom not only have I been getting to sleep earlier but my husband and I have also connected more as a couple. The same goes for mobile phones, if you use it for your alarm clock place it outside of your door so you won't be tempted to pick it up if you go to the bathroom during the night or before you sleep. I have also set my phone to silent, and it is amazing not only how much I get done during the day but how much more sleep I get at night.

Reduce caffeine intake, now from someone who has 3 coffees before 10am this can be hard but the truth is it does keep you awake, after all isn't that why we drink it? Experts suggest that you drink your last cup before 2pm to ensure you aren't kept up at night. Caffeine can also dehydrate you which will have you drinking more water and up to the bathroom more frequently at night as well. So swap the coffee after 2pm for herbal tea.

Avoid alcohol as a sleep aid, we have all heard the old wise tales of take a nip of Baileys or a glass of red wine to make you sleep better, but it's been proven that drinking before bed can actually make you wake up more during the night and also feel foggier the following morning.

Exercise but if you are someone who gets energised after exercise then consider doing it no later than 4 hours before you plan on sleeping. This way you are sure not to feel wide awake after a night gym work out.

Keep pets off the bed, yep sorry fluffy but no more sleeping with us. If you have a cat like ours that feels that they can sleep on your head and push their claws into your neck then it doesn't make for a good night sleep. Give them plenty of cuddles before bed and then pop them to sleep somewhere else.

Limit your water intake before bed so you are not getting up to go to the toilet at night, and try not to overeat or eat heavy foods that sit in your stomach as you are more likely to feel uncomfortable in bed and change positions frequently.

Access your bed, pillows and linen.  We use a high thread count for our sheets and to me it really makes a difference in comfort, we also have good feather pillows that are good for our necks and not long ago we got introduced to Protect-A-Bed the Number 1 producer of mattress protectors worldwide. Protect-A-Mattress protects your mattress from moderate spills and stains, dust mites, mould and bacteria, which is great because I suffer from bad allergies. What’s great is they include “Miracle Layer”, so the mattress protector is soft and comfortable yet waterproof and breathable.

Since using our Protect-A-Bed mattress protector we have had better night's sleep. The Signature Tencel Mattress Protectors are made from odourless wood-based fibres, which means it stays cool in Summer and warm in Winter. It’s also ideal for people with sensitive skin, rhinitis, or eczema, and we have them on all the beds in our house and as they are great quality we know they are a good investment, especially since they are washer and dryer friendly. Our main reason for switching out our old Mattress protector to this one was because my allergies were keeping me up at night especially once seasons changed. Since we put the Protect-A-Bed® Miracle Layer™ on our bed this has been limited dramatically. And my last tip is try to relax before bed, I know life can be stressful especially as mums we often have a lot on our plate. A pre bed ritual like a bath, meditation, reading a book or just sitting and relaxing will make for a better night sleep.

If you are having trouble sleeping try these tips and let us know how you go!

What's All The Hype With Marley Spoon?

I had seen Marley Spoon advertised on the Net and also have had friends and work collegues rave about them, but to be honest I am not really one that likes food being delivered, I much prefer to pick my own produce and know that I am getting exactly what I want, I've tried ordering groceries on line before and it just doesn't work for me. So when we were asked to try out Marley Spoon I was a little sceptical, I knew it would be great to have food delivered to my door with full instructions on how to make the meal, the convenience side I was really looking forward to but I wasn't sure about not picking my own produce.

I decided we would try out 2 of their meals , the process was really easy I simply went on line and selected the 2 meals I wanted and for a family of 4.

The box arrived on the Monday Morning and the first thing that surprised me was the fact that both meals had their own separate labelled bag along with a beautiful printed out recipe card. Now this might not be big for some, but occasionally if I arrive home late from work my husband needs to cook and the fact that the herbs and veggies are separated into the right recipes makes a big difference. I asked my husband to buy a cauliflower once and he bought home a cabbage lol He has also bought home Thai basil when I asked for sage, so the fact that everything is in the one bag makes it easy for a beginner cook as well. The protein and cheese was packed in a separate bag with an ice block to keep it cool.

The first night we had this Chilli Basil Beef the flavours where amazing the balance of sweet, sour and heat were amazing, I only used one of the Chilli's as my kids don't like overly hot food. This meal was huge, there are 4 of us and we all ate it and then I also put left over's in 3 containers for hubbies lunches, my kids are 5 and 7 so there may not be left over's if you have teenagers. I was surprised at the size though. My husband messaged me today from work and said it even tastes good cold < winning! The kids ate it too!

The following night we had this Parmesan Chicken Schnitzel and OMG the chicken was so tender and a tip squeezing lemon over it once cooked takes it to a whole new level. Again there was more then enough We got 7 pieces of chicken out of the fillets and was left with 2 left over which the kids had for lunch the following day. The coleslaw was a perfect balance of crispiness and tang. I also think this would be perfect in a bread roll on a Friday night watching the footy or even pre cooked and taken to a picnic. This was so delicious and one that I will be trying again.

I see a lot of value in what Marley Spoon are doing, I love that you can keep the recipe cards and repeat the same recipe down track, I love that it encourages your other half to cook and they have healthy options. I also love that it doesn't take the enjoyment out of cooking, you still get to dice and mix and enjoy the whole process. I also think it's great for entertaining not just to save time, but easy to put together a quick meal that you cooked with very little effort. But most of I love that the ingredients were actually better quality then I am use to and that's a big tick for me.

I was sceptical to start with but I will most defiently be using Marley spoon in the future even if it's just for a couple of meals during the week. I guess you could say I see what all the hype is about now :)

Marley Spoon have been lovely enough to give our followers $35.00 off your first order simply click here and order. There are plenty of meals to choose from!

Memorable Mum Moments with Curash™

Anyone who has more than one child knows the struggle of siblings squabbling. Seriously I love being a mum but if there is one thing I can not stand its hearing my 7 and 5 year old argue and whinge at each other, it always ends in tears and normally they are mine ha!

In between the fights and tantrums there are plenty of nice mum moments though and I witnessed one today. I couldn't here much noise coming from their bedrooms and normally that isn't a good sign, so I went to check on them to see what they were doing. Before I got to the door I could hear them talking to each other about their Dolls, I peeked around the corner and saw they were dressing their dolls with about 30 Curash™ baby wipes spalled out around them, they had been playing babies and cleaning their dolls with the wipes. It seriously was the cutest thing to watch < even if they were wasting the wipes. To see their natural little mothering instincts come out was so sweet to see. Fun In The Sun Reviewing Plum Swimwear!

Fun In The Sun Reviewing Plum Swimwear!

My kids are fish, they literally spend most of the summer swimming, you can guarantee on any given day if I ask them  what they want to do the answer is always either the beach or pool.

We have the best of both worlds in Sydney, we have great beaches and we also have some fantastic  indoor swimming pools for the days that Sydney weather is temperamental, which means the kids can swim all year round.

My little ones seem to outgrow swimmers yearly so I was really excited when Plum gifted us their swimmers out of their latest range for us to try.

Plum is an Australian label and is the leader in kids swimwear worldwide, that is pretty impressive right?

What makes Plum so great is the fact that they are not only on trend with their designs ranging from nautical, vintage and bright themes but they also have UPF 50+ protection from the sun, which is super important for our little ones in the Australian weather.

Their range is endless and includes the following;

•Swim Nappy

•Halter-Necked One Piece

•Rash Vests &Shorts

•All-In-One Swimsuit

•Swimming Trunks

•Legionnaires Hats

•Board Shorts

What surprised me the most was how well the swimmers were made, the quality is fantastic and they are very affordable and range in sizes from 000 to 7. They make perfect gifts especially for their price point. I know what I am getting the nieces and nephews for Christmas this year!

And if that isnt enough ABC card holders also receive 20% discount, click here for the details: ABC Discount
