A break-dancing wolf, kid acrobats, even a Gobbledygook: the Sydney Opera House is home to a bunch of captivating, high-energy characters these the July School Holidays bringing classic tales and fun-filled new works to life.
Beloved Play School presenter, Justine Clarke, brings her theatrical magic to the Playhouse in a brand new show Look! Look! It’s a Gobbledygook!, based on her best-selling, award-winning books. From 1 – 11 July, Justine will be joined by a band of musicians and some cheeky monsters, climbing rainbows, painting pictures and riding on dinosaurs. But look out! The mischievous Scribbledynoodle is up to his tricks, trying to spoil story time by scribbling all over the pages. The only question is: is he wrecking or creating?
From 12 – 16 July, Ireland’s acclaimed CoisCẻim Dance Theatre turns a classic fable on its head, reimagining Peter and the Wolf from the canine’s perspective. Combining Prokofiev’s celebrated score with modern soundscape and contemporary dance, it’s a bold and imaginative twist on a timeless tale that has been hailed by The Irish Times as “funny, imaginative, and, finally, very moving.”
From 5 – 16 July, Australia’s National Youth Circus, The Flying Fruit Fly Circus, takes over the Studio with a brand new show set in a 1940s junkyard. Taking audiences back to a time when the neighbourhood street was a playground full of adventure and make-believe, JUNK transforms trash into a magical treasure-filled landscape. Based in Albury Wodonga, the ‘Fruities’, as they are affectionately known, are a world-renowned circus company that showcases the next generation of Australian talent.
Before or after the show, make sure to visit Creative Play in the Western foyers, where you can abandon the rules and build, break or invent anything you like as part of a kid-created art installation.
There’s even more to discover off stage on the Junior Adventure Tour. Kids can explore the Opera House with expert guides providing plenty of new facts to learn and interactive games for the whole family.
